After third Oakland police shooting this year, advocates demand body-cam footage

Oakland community members who rallied outside police headquarters on Monday are calling for greater transparency and accountability after officers shot and killed a man this week.

Organizers are calling for police to release body-worn camera footage, dispatch audio, and other information on the fatal shooting in East Oakland.

Police have said the man had a lethal weapon, but have not offered further details.

Cat Brooks is the executive director of the Anti Police-Terror Project.

“It's the same talking point, right. This is what they tell you to say," Brooks said. "It used to be, tell them you were afraid for your life. Now it's, they had a lethal weapon, right, but we're not gonna tell you what that is.”

This marks the third killing by Oakland police this year.

Officials have not responded to requests for comment.
