Relatives of the family of four who was killed in a car crash in San Francisco's West Portal neighborhood said today that the driver is getting off too lightly.
Mary Fong Lau, who is now 80, was driving 70 miles per hour in 2024 when she struck Matilde Ramos Pinto, Diego Cardoso de Oliveira and their two sons.
Judge Bruce Chan sentenced her on Friday to probation, community service and a suspended license.
Chan cited Lau's remorse, lack of a criminal record and age in his decision
But the victims' family said the sentence amounts to "a slap on the wrist for taking four lives."
In a statement, the family said they will continue to seek further accountability through civil lawsuits.
