The Oakland Police Department identified a 25-year-old man as the second person dead from a mass shooting at a downtown bar Saturday morning.
News reports and people who reviewed footage of the incident said the man, Markise Martin, may have been one of the shooters in the incident that also killed San Pablo school teacher 33-year-old Latetia Bobo.
The shooting occurred at EZ’s Lounge on 14th Street around 3:30 a.m., according to OPD, leaving five others injured. Several firearms were recovered from the scene, police said.
Video footage from the shooting shows an injured man on the ground firing a gun multiple times. Bobo's friend Sofala Mayfield said Bobo was caught in the crossfire.
"Teachers don’t have machine guns in clubs, and that person that was killed is on camera shooting a machine gun," Mayfield said. "He quite possibly is the person that took her life."
Police documents reveal that Martin was arrested for a shooting and firearms violation in relation to the Oakland-based Case gang in 2021, but an Antioch police scandal two years later led to the dismissal of criminal cases including his.
Police said Bobo died on the scene — and Martin died after being transported to the hospital Saturday morning.
OPD said that due to an ongoing investigation, no additional details are being released at this time.
